As I sit down to write this post, one that should be a holiday offering to all of my friends perpetuating the supposed joy and peace of the season, I am still struggling with attempts to wrap my mind around the recent devastation that took place in Newtown, CT.
Take in as much as you can from your current position. If you have truly climbed as far as you can, it may be time to release your grip. But instead of resigning yourself to the fall, look first for another rope. Sometimes in life we have to let go of one thing before we can take hold of something else.
I am well aware of my place in this world and the forces that are bigger than I am. But the experience of having my heart stop beating somehow penetrated those forces. The processing of this experience, a dimension of emotional intelligence, has propelled me to live even more intentionally.
The most competitive businesses are the ones who realize what is next for their category… not just for their own industry.
When I have grown to instinctively apply my experience to benefit myself and others, I have begun to move from lesson learning to lesson learned.
Instead of making a New Year’s resolution, ask yourself, “What can I do this year that will make me more effective than last year?” We could all benefit from being more effective in every aspect of our lives.
