I’ve noticed that many of us are rapidly moving from one task, one project, and one event to another. We move like a high-speed train headed to our next stop. We don’t pause, and we surely don’t stop to notice our surroundings.

I suspect you are like many, moving at a rapid pace because everyone else is. You want to or feel you have to move with the flow of traffic for fear of causing a traffic jam. You’re doing more while thinking less about why. Moving rapidly is a habit because, sadly, reality requires that most of what we do must get done now or very soon.
Let me suggest that you periodically pause and relish the moment. Stop. Look. Listen. Take a deep breath… and think about your recent accomplishments before you move on to the next one. For example, when you achieve a big or small goal (from passing an exam to marching at graduation; from presenting your idea to its acceptance by senior management), recognize and soak up the moment. Reflect on the journey you took to get there. Remember the sacrifices you made, the challenges you faced, and the barriers you overcame to get to this place. Don’t let the moment pass by without relishing in it.

Appreciate what you have accomplished before moving on to your next conquest. Life is too short to run through without pausing to bask in our own achievements.
